All Guzzled Out....

This years Grasmere guzzler festival was a massive success, even despite the horrendous weather and ensuing mud! Friday started off well with an array of local musicians including the acclaimed "Weird String Trio." The rain started in earnest on Saturday but didn't put off the army of guzzlers who had come to partake in some fine ales and local food. The wild boar burgers were sold out by the end of lunchtime and a second pig had been ordered for the Sunday Hog Roast. Taffy Thomas, the legendary story-teller made himself heard above all the noise of the rain on the marquee roof with great success and was followed by music from Kirk McElhinney, The Righteous Bees and Room Full of Mirrors. The night was rounded off with a good natured mud fight from a few of the locals and staff and some mud face painting. On Sunday we awoke to a complete quagmire and had to come up with a plan B as the area inside the marquees were completely full of mud we moved the stage and barbeque out into the sunshine which fortunately had come out for the day! Pete Lashley played a marathon set in the afternoon sunshine while everyone relaxed, enjoyed some more beer and hog-roast. The final night was rounded off with an excellent set from The Indian Postal Service and the beer of the festival was announced as Yates- Grasmere Guzzler- as voted for by the customers. By this time the beer was all gone, the pig was finished and everyone was ready for bed with just a thought to spare for the excellent staff and all the cleaning up they would have to do for tomorrow!
We'll see you all next year for an even bigger and better Guzzler!!

Live music at Tweedies Bar every Saturday night from 9.30pm.

11th June - Kirk McElhinney

A contemporary musician with a style of his own, great modern twists on old classics.
As well as a stunning set of his own material , Kirk delivers some great cover versions with real passion and a new twist. A highly original musician with some very interesting and exciting numbers. See http://www.myspace.com/kirkmcelhinney

One of cumbria's best blues preformers live at tweedies and a firm crowd pleaser.

25th June - Room Full of Mirrors

Formed early in 2010, and then again an hour and a half after that, Room Full of Mirrors are a fusion of Shooglenifty-esque tune-smithery and catchy song-writing. We're all about the groove! We try to leave no rootsy genre out of the equation: from celtic melodies to reggae to eastern-European sounds to Americana to English folk music- we leave no musical stone unturned! Like musical magpies, we steal all the shiny bits to add to our sound....

A very cool jazz/blues guitarist with influences of Nick Drake, John Martyn and Jose Gonzalez.

Paddy Rogan plays a selection of covers with a bluesy feel as well as an impressive repertoire of originals. http://www.myspace.com/paddyrogan
